I took one bite of a Mushroom, American Cheeeseburger. After one bite, I put it down and I knew it was the best burger I had ever had in my life. The meat was perfect, the mushrooms were perfect and the cheese tasted incredible.

Do yourself a favor, and go to this place. Actually, don't go. No, stay away. Its hard enough to grab a seat here, maybe you should go to Big Mouth Burger in the mission, that place is okay. Yeah, go there.

Meh, maybe I just hit this place on an off night, but I just wasn't THAT impressed.  I got a Spicy Sly and frankly it was just a bit blah.  Not near spicy enough, the bun was average, and the patty was a pretty generic greasy spoon burger patty.  To top it off, a burger (without fries) and a coke was over $10 which seems a little high given the type of place this is.  In contrast I could have had this http://www.joshwillis.... back in Austin at Casino el Camino WITH fries and a beer for less money.  I wouldn't mind eating here again, but I won't make a special effort to come back.

Great food! Late hours! Great Staff! Huge Selection of burgers and fries! but why only 4 stars? i'd have to say the price and the confined space. it's a small space which can be intimate and nice, but usually you just feel crammed in. take the food to go you say? ok, but by the time you get home your food is a ball of moist grease. best tasting moist grease but still not what you payed all that money for. but anyways back to the positives the burgers are amazing and having different types of fries and fry hybrids is great all in all the price is usually always worth it. haven't had a bad experience yet other than the day i took my food home. just go make the decision for your self if you like burgers(beef, buffalo, or vegitarian) check this place out. also they have shakes. actually all this talk about the good food has my mouth watering i think i'm going to go there right now. :)

"mmm that is a tasty burger" - jules(samuel l. jackson) pulp fiction

"That's a pretty fucking good milkshake. I don't know if it's worth five dollars but it's pretty fucking good." -Vince Vega(john travolta) ......pulp fiction.

I don't often crave for burger but I sure want the best when I do.  Well, that was a few weeks ago and I wanted a real burger from a burger joint and not a fancy restaurant.  Naturally, I turned to Yelp.  After searching and reading endless reviews, I decided Pearl's the one - the pics were quite convincing.  As a matter of fact, I had my heart set on the King Burger from the picture.

Anyway, hubby thought it was located at the shady part of SF and didn't think it was a good idea.  I wasn't convinced and suggested we drive by to check it out and of course I was right.  Luckily, he found a space just right outside.

The space is small but a lot cleaner and brighter than expected.  Somehow, I thought it would be more a neighborhood hole in the wall joint.  Anyway, it took me a while to study the menu and changed my mind.

What we ended up ordering:
Phat Bobb burger ($7.65) - bacon, onion ring, bbq sauce and jack cheese - everything I like, delicious!

Large order of onion rings ($3.45) - tasty and crispy.

Large order of sweet potato fries ($3.45) - sweet and filling.  Hubby had it with ketchup, I find that strange but to each his own I guess.

Chocolate banana shake ($3.99) - YUM!  I don't always want/like shakes but their menu of special shakes were so extensive and tempting that I couldn't resist.  The shake was perfect, not too thick or cold, you can easily sip it up and taste it.  The pleasant surprise was the sweet bits of banana!

Can't wait to return to try other items such as buffalo burger ($1.50 more), save stomach space with the combos of either the frings (fries and onion rings), spries (sweet potato & fries), or springs (sweet potato and onion rings), the chili or the chili cheese fries...

Friendly service - the guy brought us the burger then asked if we would like it cut in half, great!  Also, help yourself with a large jar of pickles at the counter.

Small compared to the one in Mill Valley and doesn't feel as homey.  Didn't seem to have quite the same shake variety as well.

BURGER - Was a little worried about the bacon after some reviews, but it was excellent, as was the Phat Bob Mini I had.  Tasty!

ATMO - stale

FINE
I'll probably save my Pearl outings for my Marin trips.

After the person I was with told me he was craving a burger I knew just the place to take him - Pearl's Deluxe Burgers.  It was a quick walk down post, through the TL, but well worth it.  I ordered the Phat Bob and he ordered the one under it with Blue cheese or something.  Both were DELICIOUS.  Almost perfect.  In my book the bacon wasn't crispy enough so make sure you ask them to cook it how you like it.  Onion rings were delicious.

I am a straw connoisseur and the straws they have for their shakes are amazing.  Nice big thick ones.

Minus 1 star for their super soggy sweet potato fries which was something I looked forward to for the entire walk over there.

Otherwise - definitely one of the best burgers in the city!  Oh, and they now have mini versions (which I will be getting next time) if the regular size is too big.

I just put in a review for In-N-Out -- OK burgers, not great. Pearls, on the other hand -- that's where great burgers are found.

The standard burgers are great on their own, and Pearl's offers a bunch of special burger topping combos (recommendations: pesto, spicy sly, but really, just get what sounds good). They also serve buffalo (err, bison)... so, so, so tasty -- they'll cook it to order, and it's lower in calories and cholesterol than beef -- heck, it's almost nutritious!

Be sure to get some fries with your burger. If you like garlic, get the garlic fries. And they serve milkshakes here in a bunch of crazy flavors (Black Forest, did I read that right?!?). I hear they're delicious, but I haven't been able to justify it. I mean, I just finished a huge burger and a large side of fries. But one day.

Problem: they're closed on Sundays. And what a bummer sometimes -- let's say you've been watching football all afternoon, enjoying some beers, and now you've got a hunger within. A delicious burger would be so awesome right about now -- but wait! Dammit! oh god why!?!

alas.

After having burgers for 3 meals this week, I swore I wouldn't eat any more burgers.  But as the bro-in-law and I were trying to figure out what new place we should try out for dinner, he found Pearl's Burgers.

Me: "Only if they have like...a chicken sandwich. I don't think I can do any more burger...I'll die"
BIL: "But look at these photos!"
Me (looking and drooling): "But I can't....oh wait there's a chicken sandwich! ok lets go"

He ordered a blue cheese, bacon and grilled onion burger, sweet potato fries, and a strawberry shake. I ordered the pesto chicken sandwich and water (hey i'm trying to be somewhat healthy!! hehehe).

The pesto wasn't over powering...it was just right.  The chicken breast grilled nicely, not dried out and was quite a substantial piece.  The bro-in-law was in love with his burger. He stopped talking to me.

The strawberry shake was awesome! Not your crazy sweet pink milkshake. It had real strawberry chunks and real strawberry sweetness.

I'm usually not a big sweet potato fan but I must say that the sweet potato fries were yummy.

I must wake up early to go the gym tomorrow!!!

Ah....Pearl's.  After weeks of talking about eating here, we finally ate here during the start of SF's Indian summer.

SWEET POTATO FRIES!  I had my heart set on that.  I think I was more excited about eating sweet potato fries more than I was about eating burgers.

I ordered the "phat bob" and substituted for a buffalo patty.  It's terrible, but on the rare occasions we eat at Carl's Jr, I order the western bbq burger....bacon, onion rings, bbq sauce and cheese, all thrown ontop of a patty and smashed between bread...giving me some funky food high.  The "phat bob" however had some kick ass onion rings in it and crispy bacon.  *drools* the buffalo was awesome, too.  I felt a little less guilty about eating my burger with buffalo meat in it.

He ordered the king burger, a hot dog/link ontop of a beef patty with cheese..lots of cheese.  He was pwned by his burger with only a few bites remaining.  I got indigestion just looking at his burger!  To him having a hot dog and a burger was having the best of both worlds.

The sweet potato fries were gone even though we were stuffed.  TL is not the optimal place to eat a meal...during the day is just fine though.  Cannot wait to come back and eat here.  Worth every penny of the $25 bucks spent.

Went a second time and this time, just ordered the regular deluxe (1/2 pound) with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and onions.  And a cup of water.  Cost was $6.72.  I'm telling you, it was divine.  I was starving and scarfed it so fast that I was sort of embarrassed that other people might have noticed.  Just the burger made me quite full for the rest of the day.  No way I could have eaten fries.   Their fries are good, but if you don't want to feel overstuffed, I suggest going big on the beef and skip the fries for maximum enjoyment.

After writing my review, I gave it a 2nd try since I was in the area and hungry.  Meh, same deal.  I went for the one with bacon & bleu cheese.  I love bleu cheese, a lot, but whatever they use is some cheap extra sour stuff that was just not good.  And their bacon is a bit suspect, I've never had bacon with the kind of texture theirs has.  It was almost spongy :/

Had the fries though, which were bomb.  I may go back just to snack on some fries if I'm in the area.

So two years without a burger. We go to Pearl's for one of our rare "any food you want" occasion meals. And man, that was really somethin' else. Screw fancy restaurants for the occasion meals when you can walk up to a counter and have a kick ass burger in a few minutes. Buffalo meat was great - they're very generous with the portion (OK, I don't think I've eaten that much meat in a sitting for two years), and the toppings. Onion rings were awesome too.  I'm still recovering. Sentences. So. Short.

Pearl's makes really solid burgers. Very solid. But's not in the upper echelon of burgers that you get at places like Zuni or Nopa. For the price however, it's pretty unbeatable. I had the bacon and bleu cheese burger and wow...I actually felt my artery seize up. Perfect!

The sides are also a great selection, if not particularly delicious. I didn't find anything special about their sweet potato fries, garlic fries, or onion, but I appreciate that they had them. My friends say the milkshakes rock, so I'll go with their judgment on that.

Also, it's always a good thing that they are open late for cheap.  Pearl's is really good, but it's not great and it's not epic.

Though I live right around the corner from Pearl's, I found it on Yelp.  I never walk down Post between Jones and Leavenworth because I live on Sutter between those two streets - I always end up walking up and down either Jones or Leavenworth.  I was happily surprised to find out that Pearl's was just a stone's throw away (litereally).

I have a weakness for burgers with blue cheese and Pearl's does not disappoint (and the bacon and sauteed onions are a nice touch).  The buffalo burger is also delicious (especially when I'm looking for something a little less greasy).  The onion rings are good but not as good as the sweet potato fries.   I love that you can choose the type of meat you want.  I love that they have a 1/4 mini burger (now if only they offered a meat choice for the mini).   I love that you can mix your fries or mix fries and onion rings.

It isn't the best hamburger I've ever had but it is close.   I sort of wish it wasn't so close to home - my burger consumption has definitely gone up in the past couple of months.

Drove up from Santa Cruz to enjoy an evening Badger's game with the Bay Area Badgers at Aces down the street, and were pleasantly surprised with burgers pre-game at Pearls. The ambiance is certainly sparse, but the food is just great. I enjoyed the spicey buffalo burger with sly's spicey habanero sauce and onions/peppers...delicious. My husband had the chicken sandwitch with mushroom, and we shared the delicious sweet-potato fries. Really a great quick stop pre-game, and I recommend the buffalo burger.

The upside to working in the "Tender Nob" (also known as the hood):  being able to walk just a few blocks to Pearl's for lunch!  I like the turkey burgers with the habanero pumpkin sauce.  The first time I came here, the cashier wouldn't give me the sauce directly on the burger because he thought it might be too spicy.  Little did he know I've been known to drink hot sauce.  Having proved myself,  I now get the sauce all over the bun.  Hands down, my favorite fast place for a working lunch. (Know that there isn't much room to eat here - getting your burger to go is probably your best bet).

Last night on my way home I decided to come in and don't regret it! I got the pesto burger, sweet potato fries and black forest milkshake. OMG, can't wait to try the other flavours of their milkshake. The blackforest shake reminds me of eating the real baked version.
The patty was HUGE! yes, you definitely need two hands to eat these things. The service was awesome too! friendly and quick!

If 2008 is remembered for anything in food circles it may just be remembered as the year when big, and obviously fake, pearls made a comeback. Any by fake pearls, I mean Pearl's Deluxe Burger. Have none of you had a real good hamburger? The Salt House Cheeseburger? The Houston's Hickory Burger? NOPA's Grass-Fed Hamburger? Now those are good burgers. Shame on you Yelpers for thinking otherwise. Pearl's is a perfectly ok burger stand, but in no way the highest rated in SF.

Amazing burgers, hence the four stars. "Then why not 5-stars" you ask? The price.... can suck my balls. Sure everything around here is ungodly expensive but let's get real folks, the only place you should be spending ten dollars on a burger is room service (you lazy twacker). Like I said, the burgers are amazing, I just feel like a shmuck shelling out ten bucks for a hunk of dead cow. The basic Fries aren't anything to jizz on the walls over so keep it simple.

Oh my GAWD! Get the sweet potatoe fries! I ordered the onion rings for my burger and my girlfriend got the sweet potato fries. Her order came out first and curious, I have the fries a bite and I said "Fuck yea, I love these fries" out loud. *Allegedly*
My order came out next and guess what I got instead of onion rings....Sweet Potato Fries.
As the server brought out my order he realized I wanted onion rings not fried, but I said "Its okay my friend, I like the sweet potato fries better." And that was how I averted a meltdown.

Pros: Location, Variety, Price, Time, Customer Service, Side items.

The location is clutch as its near a number of spots downtown (Nob Hill, FiDi, Union Sq., etc.). There are a number of fixin's and styles offered for you to munch on. The cost is pretty fair considering SF price gouging. These guys appreciate their patrons, there are gift certs to Sports Basement on site (where the manager works part-time) and they'll always try to give you what you want, so you come back again. They offer a good amount of tasty sides, from fries & rings together in perfect harmony to sweet potatoe strings. Its all good in the neighborhood at Pearls.

Cons: Size of the patties.

My one knock, and this goes for a lot of places, is that their patties tend to be kinda thin. I don't mind it some much at most places, this includes Pearls, however its my opinion that the really great burger joints handmake their patties thicker. That thickness lends to you having a tastier, juicier burger, not to mention often times those places will combine different cuts of meat in their patties. I can hardly hold that against Pearls though, as their patties are still of decent size and quality.

Is it cool that I start my review Awwww Sheeeeeed!

I love a good burger and a good Turkey burger and I'll sneak in a beef burger once in a while.  I've been to a few burger spot in my time but Pearl's is by far the best! Now that make Joe's Cable Car like a distant 2nd or 3rd when I finally make my burger list.

Oh my goodness and the chili cheese fries are way better than the ones at Nation's and I think its the chili that makes the difference. Well it could be that they cook the fries longer as well. I was glad to try another sample but then I would had to buy a basket .

I'm not to sure what was so about this Turkey Burger but it touched my soul. No really it touched my SOUL. I was at piece with the Universe and my taste buds for about 30 minutes and those damn fries just made the experience complete.

For someone that wants to lose wieght Pearls can be very addicting and I think I'm going through withdrawal pain right now and need a fix!

Very good establishment. My wife and I got a hamburger that I ate and then we split onion rings and garlic fries. She was nuts about the onion rings. I would say they were a 9 on a 10 scale. The garlic fries were just right for anyone who hasn't had them before or has a weak stomach like myself. Unlike the garlic fries at Gordon Biersch, you didn't see garlic everywhere. Just a scant amount. However, the fries all had a garlic taste which was very good.

We were just going to have those two but when we crossed Jones on Post, I smelled the meat cooking. A mini hamburger was ordered and I must say it was quite good.

One last thumbs up: they give you biodegradable containers. We walked three blocks back to the hotel on a cold San Francisco evening. When we got back the room, the food was piping hot. Eco-friendly and effective!!!

Kick-Ass veggie burger, fries brought back nostalgic memories of a burger joint back in chitown (circa age three). what kinda place does that to the memories?  fries are just supposed to be these limpy pieces of potato heart-attack sticks, but damn!

the only reason this place doesnt get a 5 is that the veggie burger from lettus is a bit better, JIMO. non the less, go and get your carnivorousness on!

Wowsers.  Now that was probably the best turkey burger I've ordered in the city thus far.  The sweet potato fries were awesome goodness  and cooked perfectly.  The chocolate banana shake was just the right thickness and masterfully blended.

Do not order the onion rings or regular fries - go with the sweet potato fries.  Or if you feel the need to try them, order a half and half basket.  The portion sizes are pretty substantial, so only add a shake to your meal if you're REALLY hungry, and also, the basket of fries can definitely be split between two people.   Prices were reasonable, staff was friendly and helpful, and although the place is small, the diner-like details are cool.  Let's just say it's a good thing I don't live in the neighborhood, cause I'd be here at least once every week.  Except on Sunday -- but only because they're closed on Sundays.

They also serve buffalo meat here for an additional $1.50.  I'm not a huge fan of buffalo, but I was tempted to try it here after reading the fact sheet on the wall.  Supposedly, buffalo has less cholesterol, calories, and fat than the same serving of beef, fish, or chicken.  Also buffalo/bison are the only mammals known not to develop cancer.  Other buffalo facts listed on their wall:

1.   Bison does NOT taste wild like game meats. It DOES taste like the finest quality beef that you remember from your childhood.

2.   Bison is the only red meat that is non-allergenic.

3.   Bison was the main diet of the Plains Indians who:

     a. never had cancer
     b. never had heart disease or heart attacks
     c. lived to be 85 or 90 years old AND, scientists speculate, would
have  lived to be 125 with adequate dental care.

4.   Eating 5oz of bison, 3-4 times per week can help most people reduce LDL cholesterol 40 to 45% over a 6-month period.

5.   Bison has 40% more protein than beef so you can eat 1/3 less volume and still come away satisfied.

It's uber dangerous that this place is so close to my apartment. I'm going to be a million pounds, just watch. I give it a couple months tops.

Pearl's makes my heart stop, in the best way possible. The sweet potato fries are the definition of amazing (even though in the two months I've been going to Pearl's they have changed from crinkle cut to shoestring...maybe they like to switch up the cuts? No matter, i liked them both) They always leave my burger slightly pink and very juicy. The shakes are way good and they will mix you custom flavors (try peanut butter, chocolate, banana!), but you should share one because having a whole one made me feel huge (They come with boba straws though! Awesome!) I'm going to have to start getting the mini burgers for fear of my expanding waistline. They make their specialty burgers in mini version though! Cool!

Also, even though this place is the size of a postage stamp, I haven't yet had to wait for a table. AND they're always super nice. SHUT UP!

Pearl's, you make me feel like a fatty. Stop being so damn good, ok? Thanks.

Best burger in the world, hands down. I love this place.I've been living in Seattle for a year, but fly back about once a month. Pearl's is usually my first stop; it's essentially the only red meat I eat in a given month anymore.

Now that I'm moving home to San Francisco next week I don't know how I'll be able to stay away.

The owner is great, and I hear he's expecting!

Two years ago they had an option between "regular" meat and organic, now it's all organic or buffalo and insane.

The Tenderloin has a lot to offer if you're looking to score crack, catch an airborne disease, observe the homeless or catch an hourly rate at some broken down cesspool of a motel.  Unfortunately, I cannot add grabbing a hamburger to that list.

My wife and I tried Pearl's on a whim since there was so much chatter about it.  While good I cannot give it the gold medal, more like Honorable Mention.  There is no doubt some serious competition when it comes to burgers in San Francisco.  Of it's competitors that beat this out, I'd have to argue the main difference between this place and those is the beef patty was molded before thrown on the grill.

I don't claim to know the practices of Pearl's but looking at the patty it looked previously frozen rather than molded from fresh ground beef.  The patty at Pearl's was perfectly circular leading me to believe it wasn't molded by hand before making it's way directly to the fate of a hot grill.

The taste of the burger while subjective was just okay.  Nothing really stood out for me.  The fries were crispy and hot and the milkshake was delicious.  The price was a bit lower than some of the better competitors around the city but to pay for parking evened the score.

Bullshead still tops the leader board out here in SF.

If you love gourmet burgers, yet, you don't want to be all bourgie about it, look no further.

Here's my story:

Weeknight. 'Bout to keel over from lack of food, been snackin' all day. Unemployed (how irrelevant!!). Craving a sloppy, juicy, mother of a hamburger, and absolutely nothing else. What to do?? I dial up Yelp on my trusty Firefox, look up the highest rated burger joint in proximity (not willing to wait, or travel far). I discover Pearl's - and I'm not looking any further. I see the reviews and f*&K yes I trust these people and their wordy opinions. Literally 20 minutes later I have a burger in my face that is hot and smothered in cheese and mushrooms and awesomeness. Did I not mention it was buffalo? What the hell is wrong with me? Buffalo: Always nice to have as an option. And at this place, you have all the burgerlicious options you can imagine.  And sweet potato fries, and freakin' peanut butter shakes. Holy gluttony. Success!!! Pearl's is my place for burgers from now on. Thanks Yelpers!

Oh, a soft wind blows across the road as I head into Pearl's at the ungodly early hour of 4pm with two friends. One of our party was seriously jonesing for a Chocolate shake from Pearl's (they give you the bubble tea diameter straws) and the other two of us, had eaten 3 hours before but were pulled in by the mythical status of Pearl's burgers (which, incidentally, aren't so mythical on Sunday when they are closed).

So we arrived and there was a couple other people in the joint. They had their 100 health inspection front and center (and no bugs clearly visible) so we saddled on over to to the counter and proceeded to stuff our faces in the most gluttonous of Augustus Gloop manners. My "impaired" friend nearly fell into the 6 inch diameter straw of his tasty chocolate milk shake. His onion rings were notable, while the fries where just aight.

But you don't care about that, you wanna know about the burger.
Overall, 7.5/10 on THE burger list ranking.
Burger: Cooked medium rare Meyer beef. Nice size, but a little more greasy than I prefer.
Bun: White Bun, but had nice firmness and held up against a big burger.
Toppings: I ordered Cheddar and Grilled Onions. Which were both fine, although the cheddar didn't have the bite that I was looking for. Still, good. The burger also came with mayo, lettuce, and tomato ALREADY on it. I didn't know this, and generally would prefer to have none of those things on my burger. They put it on the bottom of the burger, so you don't know about it, until you pick the meaty goodness up.
Sides: The onion rings were good, very mealy. The fries were alright, but it must be noted that they were the only things that remained uneaten on the table when we finished.

Final Analysis: This is the best "burger diner" burger that I have had in town. I would watch out to make sure they don't put any toppings on that you specifically don't want, but they do a good job.  And, at $6.50, it is a very reasonable burger, especially compared to what you get at Burgermeister and Polkers.

I didn't realize the Deluxe Burgers at Pearl's were half pounders until I finished my burger and it settled into my stomach.  Along with an order of small fries which is fairly large and a large soda (I was really, really thirsty when I walked in.) I found myself in a serious food coma.

Even though it is posted on the menu board I failed to see that Pearl's burgers are cooked medium unless otherwise requested.  So I accepted my burger medium for a change.  I had ordered a Deluxe with bacon and no cheese or onions.  The burger patty was very good with good beef flavor, but the bacon wasn't cooked as crispy as I would have liked; in fact the fatty portion of the bacon was still quite chewy.  Between the grease from the burger and the bacon, the moisture from the lettuce and tomato and a thin film of mayonnaise the bottom bun disintegrated in a greasy, drippy mess.

The long, meaty fries were fried up golden crispy.  One thing did catch my eye on the menu, which stated that an all-natural Beef Patty could be substituted for an additional charge.  Does that mean there was something unnatural about my burger?

For such a tiny restaurant the menu is pretty extensive.  Quarter pound options as well as buffalo, turkey or vegetable burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs and salads are also available.  I'm pretty certain I'll return as their Spicy Sly Chicken sandwich sounded quite good.  They have lots of milkshake options too, but I was out of Lactaid tablets at the time.  Next time ... milkshakes!
